New Brolly and Shoes and some freakish golf at Torrey Pines

Just been trawling the 'Bay' for some bargains as some wind imploded my golf umbrella and my golf shoes aren't really fulfilling the requirements of 'shoes' anymore.

I found some Footjoy Dryjoys for £65 and a new 62" double brolly for £7.50

Pretty excited about the possibility of dry feet for more than three steps with these puppies!

The 13th hole at Torrey Pines south course just gave out an Albatross, Eagle and Birdie to the three players in the same group! Pretty impressive stuff!

I never thought I'd say this, but... "It rained Finally!"

The snow was washed away last night in some pretty torrential rain so I tentatively called the pro shop to find out that twelve holes were open for play and a Swindle had been organised. The stars and moons had all lined up for me this morning an I was able to get to the course to have a hit!
I was pretty excited to be playing golf again.

I have beeen watching too many isntructional videos on youtube lately and haven't been able to put them into practise. I was hitting the ball very poorly. I am going to stick to the changes I have made though as I really believe they are the way forward and the consistency of ball striking that I crave will come from the changes soon. On a positive note, my chipping and pitching were good again, so I ended up with 20 points (with 3 blobs!) through the 12 hole comp, beating my playing partners by one point.

The PGA Tour is on at the moment and I have found a way to watch some of it. Live@ has coverage of two holes and show groups as they pass through those holes and today they also simulcast the CBS coverage for a few hours for which I may be asleep, we'll see.  [edit 28/1/2013]Unfortunately the CBS simulcast isn't available to watch here, gotta be in the States methinks.

I haven't figured out a way to catch the European Tour although was very pleased to read that Chris Wood won this weekends Euro Tour event.

Not much golf around here lately, Hope to find out what it's like in Dubai next year.

An abundance of snow has lead to a drought of golf.
You really can't play golf in this:

I feel as though I am going a bit loopy, even the cats are avoiding me for fear of being 'accidentally' punted in a lack of golf induced rage fit.

In a moment of optimism I registered for the 'League to Dubai' golf competition (more info HERE). It's a series of matches played in an individual stableford format for which you get points and make it through to regional finals. The top ten individuals after regional finals and a national final receive a trip to Dubai to play on some incredible courses in the final matches over 6 nights in glorious January warmth and sunshine (obviously NOT IN WALES!!!!!).

I'm going to have to get out sooner rather than later, so I might hit up Uncle Tony for a round at Pyle and Kenfig on Monday, weather and time permitting if Coed-y-Mwstwr is still closed.

In the mean time, I'll just have to continue practising 'starting my swing with my hips' in the warmth of the lounge room.

Another devastating blow to my golf sustenance was the removal of our SKY Sports subscription. Today was my first Thursday (regular day off) without sharing TV golf with Adam in 6 months! It felt a little hollow, but we managed to get by with some putting across the lounge floor. For a 13-month old, he's doing pretty well!

Anyway, I really hope the snow gets washed away tomorrow instead of added to. Would be very glad to play golf on Saturday even if it is plugging and saturated.

Start the year as you mean to go on?

Happy New Year peoples!

The weather was lovely this past Saturday and the course was in pretty good condition too! Word must have got around because we had a very healthy turnout for the January Stableford with more than 90 blokes turning out to enjoy the dry, warm (at least 10deg) and bright conditions.

I had a weird game, my full shots left quite a bit to be desired. My chipping saved the day for me and I felt really comfortable with quite a range of shots around the green. I had one of those days where I could see the shot I wanted in my mind and was also able to pull them out of the bag (pretty much).

I ended up with a very healthy 37 points (round in 88) and finished in 16th place. That leaves me with no change to my handicap which remains at 20.2 for me to have a good crack at this Saturday's comp.

The weather is looking decidedly PANTS for Friday and Saturday and I won't be overly surprised if the comp is called off. I hope we are able to play though, I want to try out my new toy!!

I won an auction on Ebay for a Mizuno MP650 3-wood which now proudly sits in my bag between the driver and hybrid-3. There isn't a single mark on the 3-wood and I think I got myself a super bargain at £55.00 plus p+p. I hope it isn't a fake, looking forward to seeing if I can hit the ball with it.

I hope the weather is kind to you all and your local course is drying out. All the best for 2013!!
