My Swing and its progress (or otherwise)

As I wrote in the page about my golfing journey, my swing was not naturally a straight one and slicing across two adjacent fairways wasn't an uncommon event. Very disheartening and frustrating.

Since starting to play regular golf at Coed-y-Mwstwr in September I have begun to really concentrate on figuring out my swing problems and fixing them. I re-read the golf Instruction manual which helped a bit but I wanted something a bit more tactile.

I stumbled on Mark Crossfield's youtube channels one day (OH NO!!!! NOT INSTRUCTION FROM THE INTERNET!!!!) and have found a lot of his videos extremely helpful in allowing me to understand my swing and to learn to change it. There have been quite a few "Eureka!" moments, but as with all things GOLF, sometimes they just vanish again into thin air and old habits take over.

I wanted to let people know that Mark Crossfield is very helpful (although he ruined my scores for a bit, they will come back and get better than ever soon!)
I've set up this page to spread the word and as a place I can record things that have flicked the switch, so to speak.

I have got Mark's app on my phone with easy access to all his video lessons and reviews. You can check him out on Youtube where you'll find links to his Apps, Google+, Twitter & Facebook. Go and 'get stuck in'.

At the moment, these are the things that help me to hit the little white ball with the big sticks straighter and further:

Posture - Club out, bend at the waist to get a good address position.
stable & bent right knee to torque against for back swing.

Grip - Back to overlapping grip, pressure mainly in middle fingers. Keep hands relaxed.

Backswing - Swing/spin back all the way, don't sway.

Downswing - Relax hands slightly as hips fire to posting left leg (if I don't get the leg straight, I slide through the strike and fluff it all up). Relaxing my hands helps me to get the feeling of creating lag and/or dropping the club inside the ball slightly.

Impact - Into impact ensure that my right shoulder is spinning down and then through, not straight through.

Followthrough - If I lose my ballance, concentrate on fully extending left leg and spinning, not sliding.

Start using a practise swing to get the correct left leg feeling and hand feeling to replicate at the ball.
I know it's all a LOT to think about, but for practise and drills until I get it ingrained, I need it this intricate.

My shots at the range were fantastic today (28/1/3013), this is written so that I can remember what I did, thought and felt.

18 October 2013
I had an on-course lesson with Paul the other day. Alignment was off again. Feet were aiming to the right. Need to regularly use some alignment aids. Lessons once per month over winter for me!
Clubface alignment, Grip, foot alignment and posture.
Then just make sure I stay connected and make a committed swing transferring my weight fully to my left.
